What Is a DEKA Nd:YAG Laser?

A laser is a highly focused beam of light. Lasers have many applications in various industries, including both medicine and dentistry.

The DEKA Nd: YAG laser is a recent innovation from the brand DEKA. It uses a man-made crystal and a high intensity lamp, along with a device known as a resonator, to create a laser that penetrates deep into the tissues of the human body.

Depending on the settings used, the Nd: YAG laser can be used for surgical procedures; it is very efficient at creating precise incisions in soft tissues. However, it also has non-surgical applications.

How Does a DEKA Nd:YAG Laser Work?

During treatment for TMD, the laser can be applied to the body’s exterior. It produces heat that penetrates into the temporomandibular joints (TMJs). It has a remarkable biostimulation effect, which means that it can activate and encourage the body’s natural healing processes. It thereby reduces inflammation, encourages blood flow, and aids in nerve regulation. It even has the potential to stimulate the rebuilding of bone and tissue within damaged TMJs.

What Conditions DEKA Nd:YAG Laser Treat?

While TMD treatment is a major focus of our practice, that is not all we do with the DEKA Nd:YAG laser! It can also be used for patients with the following conditions:

  • Sore head, neck, and inner-mouth muscles
  • Aphthous ulcers and herpetic lesions — Once the site of these conditions are treated with the lasers, the chance of a future reinfection is virtually eliminated!
  • Pain caused by tooth infections (Keep in mind that the laser is not a true treatment for tooth infections. Rather, it can reduce the pain of an infected tooth while you wait for care that addresses the root cause of the infection.)
